Pilates day2

Tonight I have my second Pilates Class at Pure Form Pilates in town at 19:15.

The first class was last week Friday. We arrived super late, struggling to find the place... But finally got there, myself all red-faced and barefoot and Leah, all ready and prepped!

I'm super excited to feel the burn and to really get things firm! 😁

Ciao for now!

It seems my timing is off

It seems my timing is off.

The two most powerful warriors are patience and time. So remember: great achievements take time, there is no overnight success.--- Ritu Ghatourey

Each time you are honest and conduct yourself with honesty, a success force will drive you toward greater success. Each time you lie, even with a little white lie, there are strong forces pushing you toward failure. --- Unknown

I am going to be honest with all of you and tell you that I am not prepared to do this course just yet. It is unfair of me to ask you all for money and support when I am not ready to take on this challenge.

I will be training in the art of Pilates, become fit in it so that I am prepared to teach it properly and to take on this role. I am a firm believer in experience and learning from that experience. And THAT is the kind of teacher I want to be. I believe that I bring it into my everyday life, and I believe that is is something I can bring across to learners as well as other teachers.

So this is the plan. I am going to train with my sister where we will learn together and support each other and get strong together. This will help us to get closer to each other and closer to our goal of getting fit and healthy.

Oh! What a life.

Thank you Jesus for giving me wisdom and courage, for being my personal saviour and life-long friend. Oh how I love you!

Making a big life change is pretty scary...

The Quiet Before the Storm

I am so thankful to those of you have supported me in the last couple of days.

I feel the huge quiet before the storm. It is in this time that it is so easy to lose faith and jump to doubtful conclusions. You start thinking about quitting, about taking the lesser option, about moving out of the country and quitting everything!

But there are a few of you who look at me freaking out, jumping around, having back spasms and face spasms, and just calmly say "It's ok Jess, I know you can.".

These are not always shown in words, but in gestures big and small.

I appreciate everyone of you. Even just for reading this blog.

Where does Pilates come from?

The Pilates Method
Imagine you could get a great body, grow taller, improve your strength and flexibility, enhance your posture, relieve aches and pains, improve your sex life, decrease stress, boost your energy and confidence all through one kind of exercise. Better still, imagine you actually enjoy doing it!
What Pilates can do for you

  • Give you the flexibility gained from yoga
  • Give you the muscle work of weight training without bulking up your body
  • Give you a strong, toned body, with a flatter stomach, longer, leaner muscles and a more streamlined shape
  • Improve your posture
  • Relieve many aches and pains
  • Give you an extraordinary feeling of wellbeing
  • Decompress your spine so that you may even regain lost height
If your usual approach to fitness begins by looking at your body in disgust, then hurling yourself into a wild cardio-vascular frenzy in order to lose the extra weight, or spending hours in the gym to tone up those flabby areas, then help is at hand. Even if your method has the potential to work in the long term, you never find out, because you’re never able to keep it up long enough.
It is too exhausting and too boring. Your routine becomes yet another arduous task to be ticked off the list at the end of the day. You aren’t enjoying the process so you give it up and go back to your old couch-potato ways.

Pilates offers a very different approach. Instead of being a mindless exercise, Pilates is one in which you have to engage your mind as well as your body, which means you don’t get bored. Every time you do a Pilates session, it feels fresh and new. Better still, it is extremely relaxing and you come out of a session feeling great! How many times have you walked out of the gym feeling exhausted or come in from a run and collapsed in a heap on the sofa? After a Pilates session, you don’t feel wiped out. Quite the opposite. You feel rested, revitalized, years younger.
Joseph Pilates
Joseph Pilates is the man behind the Pilates method, of which he made the following claim:
In 10 sessions, you will feel the difference, in 20 you will see the difference, and in 30 you’ll have a whole new body.’
Born near Dusseldorf, Germany in 1880, Joseph Pilates was a sickly child and suffered from asthma, rickets and rheumatic fever. However, he refused to be limited by his illnesses and, even though he was only a young boy, determined to improve his physical condition. He threw himself into a programme of body conditioning and achieved such good results that by the age of 14 he was posing as a model for anatomical drawings.
He went on to become a gymnast, boxer and a circus performer. He also became a devotee of yoga and martial arts. It was his continued determination to cure his own body and improve the health of those around him that led to his researching and developing an entirely new exercise regime in the early 1900’s which he termed ‘Contrology”.  Contrology combined Eastern and Western approaches and was specifically designed to control the muscles by using the mind.
In 1912, Joseph Pilates moved to England where he taught self-defence to detectives at Scotland Yard, but when the First World War broke out, he was interned as a German national. He used his time to refine his exercise method and began teaching his programme of mat-based exercises to fellow internees.
During the latter part of the war, Joseph Pilates worked on the Isle of Man as an orderly in a hospital where he began working with patients who were unable to walk. He devised exercise equipment for his patients by attaching springs to hospital beds to provide resistance, and found his patients recovered more speedily than those not under his care. These spring-based pieces of equipment became the prototypes for the machines that he would later design for his equipment-based studios in New York.

After the war, Joseph Pilates returned briefly to Germany where he worked as  a trainer to the Hamburg Police force. In 1926, he emigrated to the United States. On the voyage over, he met his future wife, a nurse called Clara, and by the end of the trip, they had decided to open the first official Pilates studio in New York City. The Pilates studio was an immediate success as it became the secret of New York’s finest ballet dancers and athletes.

My journey to becoming a Pilates Instructor

To my family and closest friends.

I am wanting to do a Comprehensive Teacher Training Course in Pilates.

I am not wanting to change careers, but only to gain more knowledge and more experience in order to help myself and help other people suffering from sport injuries, back problems, etc. and also to create a fit and healthy lifestyle that I can share with everyone..

I would really appreciate your support.

"Guinea Pigs"
I need your help with three things:

(1) I need guinea pigs to fulfill my 500 hours of study, practice, observation and apprentice teaching;
(2) I need a support structure to keep me accountable, encouraged and to follow my progress during this course; and last but not least,
(3) I need piggy banks willing to help me pay for this course.

You can choose to be one or more of those things, or none of those things. Just send me an email at jessi.heydenrych@gmail.com.

But let me tell you a little more about the course...

"Support Structure"
More than simply a program of study, the BASI CTTC is an enduring foundation for a career in Pilates, with graduates qualified to teach up to an
advanced level on the full complement of standard equipment including the
Mat work.

It is a rigorous and demanding program of study, practice, apprenticeship and observation, which will qualify you for a career at the highest levels of the Pilates Method. Students completing the course, receive one of the most respected certificates in the industry.

The program includes several unique methodologies that have made the BASI teacher training the most contemporary and exciting of its kind.

The course requires approximately 500 hours of study, practice, observation, apprentice teaching and an assessment procedure. The process of becoming a skilled teacher is highly individual and BASI encourages each individual to work at his or her own pace. The goal is to develop excellence in each and every person, irrespective of how long it takes. All courses, no matter where they are held, are under the supervision of BASI Pilates and conform with BASI Pilates policies and procedures.
"Bank Piggies"

Why do I want to do this course?

Upon the completion of this course, i will be qualified to:

  • Work according to the principles of Pilates and introduce these tenets to clients and students.
  • Assess the posture and posture types, as well as detect postural deviations
  • Solve problems and provide effective exercise solutions for many physical conditions
  • Compile comprehensive and safe Pilates programs, tailored to individual needs
  • Use the BASI Block System to successfully administer individual and group sessions
  • Analyse and understand the Pilates exercises, based on anatomical and biomechanical principles
  • Demonstrate at a high level the cast repertoire of classic Pilates exercises, as well as a wide range of original BASI exercises
  • Use the full line of major Pilates apparatus, including the revolutionary Avalon system
  • Modify exercises according to the needs and goals of the individual
  • Work with specific populations and be equipped to embark on BASI Advanced Education courses.

I really want to add to my skills, and as most of you know, i LOVE teaching and helping people grow and rise up to their full potential. A healthy body, healthy mind, healthy spirit. I want to be able to give back and bless people.

How can you help?

Please contact me on how you would like to help in one of the three ways I mentioned above. Something that I would really appreciate the most is knowing that you support me, would like to encourage me and follow my next journey.

Have questions?

If you have any questions, just email me whenever and I will gladly answer them for you!

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Grace and love,
Jessi
